Why We’re Not Processing Union Dues Terminations Right Now
We’ve been receiving questions from members about stopping their union dues deductions. We want to be clear about where things stand.
We’ve been receiving questions from members about stopping their union dues deductions. We want to be clear about where things stand.
1. Your dues are still covered by the original agreements.
Under the law and the agreements in place before the administration’s recent actions, dues can only be terminated during your annual anniversary window. That rule still applies. Until your anniversary date comes up, we are not authorized to stop deductions.
2. AFGE is fighting these attacks in court.
The administration has illegally terminated collective bargaining agreements and stripped away representation rights. We believe these actions violate federal law and are challenging them in court. Until those cases are resolved, we are continuing to operate under the rules that were in place.
3. Standing together matters now more than ever.
We understand that times are tough and every paycheck matters. But the $17 per pay period that goes to your union is what allows us to fight back — not only in court, but in Congress and in the community. When members drop out, it weakens all of us at the exact moment we need to be strongest.
4. What you can expect next.
- Your dues deduction will continue until your annual anniversary window.
- We will notify members if court rulings or national AFGE guidance change this.
- Even without full grievance rights, we are still here to provide support, information, and a collective voice for VA workers.
This fight is not over. The administration wants us divided and discouraged — but every member who remains makes our union stronger. If you have questions about your dues, please reach out directly at [email protected].
Solidarity is power. Stand with us.
