AFGE’s National VA Council (NVAC) has filed a new lawsuit in federal court accusing VA Secretary Doug Collins of illegally and selectively enforcing Trump’s anti-union executive orders—targeting AFGE while protecting smaller, compliant unions.

🔍 What the Lawsuit Says

The VA’s termination of AFGE’s contracts was “arbitrary, capricious, and contrary to law.”
Collins ignored the EO’s own rules, which required decisions to be based on national security, not political activity.
The VA let seven smaller unions keep bargaining rights—because they had filed “few or no grievances.”
Meanwhile, AFGE locals like ours—who defend members and challenge management—were singled out and stripped of rights.

⚠️ What’s Happening on the Ground

At many VAs, workers from the same local are now split: some (like police or firefighters) still have contracts, while others don’t.
This has created chaos in daily operations—employees doing the same work are subject to completely different rules.
AFGE argues this violates both the First Amendment (retaliation for union activity) and the Civil Service Reform Act.

This case directly challenges the legality of the union office evictions happening nationwide—including here in Hampton.
If AFGE prevails, our collective bargaining rights and office access could be reinstated.
In the meantime, we continue to represent members under federal labor law—the union is not dissolved.

“The secretary acted without justification, and in defiance of both law and logic,” the lawsuit states. “This is political retaliation, not national security.”
