📦 Kiggans Pushes Cloud-Based Supply Chain Pilot for VA

Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA) — who represents parts of the Hampton VAMC service area — has introduced a bipartisan bill to modernize the VA’s medical supply chain using a cloud-based inventory management system.

The bill, co-sponsored by Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), would:

• Allocate $50 million for a pilot program at one VA facility
• Address chronic losses and inefficiencies, such as $5M in missing devices from Florida VA sites
• Respond to OIG findings of outdated, insecure logistics software

“This bill will help VA staff deliver timely care with the right tools — while also cutting down on waste,” Kiggans said.

But it arrives as part of a broader Trump-era push to slash federal spending and “streamline” VA operations — raising concerns about whether tech upgrades are being used to justify staffing cuts or further contract outsourcing.
