Brothers and Sisters,
There are primary elections on June 11th in Virginia, and the rights of workers to organize and unionize are on the line. In Hampton, there will be two candidates on the ballot, but only one who sides with unions and the working class.
This letter is to inform you that AFGE Local 2328 has endorsed Michael Wade for the Virginia House of Delegates, 91st district. This district includes the areas of Hampton, Poquoson, and York County. The election will be here in less than a week, on June 11th, and we are asking all our members to go to the polls to vote. All registered voters can participate.
Many of you will remember Michael from the picket lines at our events. He has supported us on the street numerous times, such as when we fought the shutdown and most recently at our prayer rally last month. He is a true champion of labor. While all members are welcome to vote for their preferred candidate, Michael Wade is the only candidate on the ballot who supports labor and supports us. Mr. Wade is an honorary member of our local, as well as the husband of one of our members, Stacy Shorter. In addition to our local, AFGE Local 448 (TSA), the Norfolk Federation of Teachers, and Mid-Atlantic Pipe Trades Association have also endorsed Mr. Wade. In 2017 he was endorsed by the Eastern Virginia Labor Federation of the AFL-CIO.
Labor and unions are under attack, and it has never been more important to have elected officials in office that support unions and workers’ rights. The power of collective action is that we can accomplish incredible things when we come together as a whole and work towards a common purpose.
June 11th, by voting for Michael Wade, we will have that chance.
