🛡️ Civil Service Workers: Frontline Defense Against Union Busting

At the 54th International Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) Convention, AFGE President Everett Kelley and AFSCME President Lee Saunders emphasized that attacks on federal workers are part of a broader strategy to dismantle unions and concentrate power among the wealthy.

Kelley highlighted that union contracts are often the last barrier against worker exploitation, stating, “They know that a union contract is often the only thing that stands between workers and complete exploitation.”

Saunders pointed out that nearly 20% of Black workers in the U.S. are employed in public service roles, making them particularly vulnerable to these attacks. He warned that the corporate interests behind initiatives like Project 2025 aim to eliminate unions entirely.

Both leaders called for a proactive approach: organizing, educating, and mobilizing to protect workers’ rights and democracy itself.
