AFGE Local 2328 Elects New Officers by Acclamation β Launches Renewed Effort to Defend Federal Workforce and Expand Regional Labor Power
Hampton, VA β AFGE Local 2328 proudly announces the election of new union officers by acclamation, ushering in a new generation of leadership committed to protecting federal workers, organizing across departments, and building regional labor solidarity at a time of historic threats to public service.
The newly elected officers are:
- Stacy Shorter, President
- Erica Roy, Vice President
- Laronda White, Secretary
- Lisa Summers, Treasurer
This transition reflects a planned and unified succession, ensuring both continuity and fresh energy in the fight to protect our members and uphold the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Outgoing President Dr. Sheila Elliott, who will retire later this year after over 35 years of service, leaves behind a legacy of principled leadership and steadfast defense of federal workersβ rights. The Local thanks Dr. Elliott for her years of service and wishes her all the best in her well-earned retirement.
Incoming President Stacy Shorter, a frontline social worker and longtime union advocate, assumes leadership at a critical juncture. With ongoing staffing cuts, outsourcing threats, and political attacks on federal service, Local 2328 is stepping up efforts to expand workplace organizing, defend every federal job, and strengthen ties with other labor power centers across the region.
βFederal workers are under siege β not just at the VA, but across the entire government,β said President-elect Shorter. βWe are building a union that fights back, organizes deeper, and works arm in arm with our communities to elect state and federal leaders who support public service. These cuts are barbaric, and we will not stand down.β
Under the new leadership, Local 2328 is deepening its commitment to organizing, leadership development, and coordinated action with public-sector unions across Virginia to ensure federal employees have a strong voice on the job β and in every political decision that affects their work.
AFGE Local 2328 represents over 1200 civil service employees at the Hampton VA Medical Center. As a proud affiliate of the American Federation of Government Employees, Local 2328 stands for dignity, fairness, and democracy in the federal workplace.
