✅ Senate Scraps Most Anti-Fed Proposals from “Big Beautiful Bill”
Good news: the Senate Parliamentarian has ruled that most of the anti-federal employee measures placed in the GOP’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”—including pension hike provisions, union-dues fees, MSPB filing charges, at-will employment mandates, and official-time restrictions—violate budget rules and have been removed from the Senate version .
🛡️ What This Means:
- Core protections for retirement and collective bargaining are no longer in immediate danger—a testament to AFGE’s ongoing efforts.
- However, future federal hires may still face higher FERS contributions—up to 9.4% (or 15% for at-will hires).
- A few smaller clauses remain under Senate consideration, including audits of FEHB enrollments.
Bottom line: We’re in a much better place than a week ago—but vigilance is still needed. Both chambers must agree on the final bill, and these provisions could creep back in during the Conference Committee phase.
