🗳️ NVAC Elects New Leadership for 2025–2028
Delegates at the National VA Council’s 25th Triennial Convention have elected a new slate of officers to lead AFGE’s largest council through one of the most challenging periods in VA history. The convention, held November 10–12 in Orlando under the banner “Empowered to Endure,” brought together leaders from across the VA system to set direction for the next three years.
New NVAC Officers
- President: Mary Jean “MJ” Burke (68% of vote)
- 1st Vice President: Barbara Whitson-Casanova (68%)
- 2nd Vice President: Tinita Cole (50%)
- 3rd Vice President: William “Bill” Wetmore (reelected, 44%)
- Treasurer: Monica Fultz (reelected, 82%)
Why This Matters for VA Workers
This new leadership will be steering NVAC during:
- the fight against Trump’s union-busting executive orders,
- active lawsuits challenging illegal contract terminations,
- massive workforce instability and privatization pressures, and
- rebuilding the union’s on-the-ground presence at VA facilities nationwide.
Incoming President MJ Burke, a physical therapist and long-time NVAC leader, emphasized unity and resilience:
“Courage takes on many forms… Having access to the union, especially in VA, is one of the things that makes America great. Now let’s get to work!”
Continuity + Experience
- Wetmore, serving since 2003, remains a key anchor as Chair of the Grievance & Arbitration Committee.
- Fultz brings decades of VA experience and returns as Treasurer with overwhelming support.
